Message from the Bowater Transition Team

Do you want to participate in shaping your community’s economic future?

The Bowater Transition Advisory Team is looking for your ideas, comments and thoughts on how the region can create jobs and diversify the economy of Queens and Lunenburg counties, and surrounding area following the end of Resolute’s forest operations.

The advisory team invites all members of the community to participate. Public discussions are scheduled for:

Monday Sept. 24 – 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Location: Best Western Plus,
63 Queens Place Drive, Liverpool, NS

Thursday Sept. 27 – 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Location: Days Inn
50 North Street, Bridgewater, NS

The sessions will follow a round-table format. A facilitated group discussion will ensure everyone’s ideas are heard and shared.

The Chamber received a letter from Gerald Keddy, MP South Shore – St. Margaret’s, regarding the federal government budget consultations for 2013. The House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance is asking Canadians for their input.

Small business, non-profits, industry organizations and individuals are all invited to participate in [pre-budget 2013 consultation] by making an online submission.

Deadline: August 3, 2012.

The recent sale by Region of Queens of 6.2 acres of land at Queens Crossing to JD Irving was discussed at a recent directors meeting of the South Queens Chamber of Commerce.

As a result of that discussion, The Chamber decided to write the Region with a number of questions and comments that arose. One question relates to the terms of this (or any future) sale with regards to commencement of development.
